SECURE YOUR STONES - DONE RIGHT HERE

Loose Stones Can Be a Warning Sign

Stones are held in place by very small areas of metal, and everyday wear can gradually weaken or shift those settings.

You may hear a stone rattle, feel movement or notice something doesn't look right. Other times a loose stone isn't obvious at all.

Our jewelers inspect the stone and surrounding to determine why it has become loose and what needs to be done to secure it properly.

OUR PROCESS

What Happens When We Tighten a Stone?

First, we inspect the stone and setting to determine where the movement is coming from. Tightening the stone without addressing worn or damaged metal may only temporarily solve the problem.

Our jeweler will determine whether the stone simply needs to be tightened or whether the setting needs additional repair. Once the work is complete, we inspect the surrounding stones and setting before the jewelry leaves our shop.

How Much Does Stone Tightening Cost?

If you purchased your ring from Diamonds Rock, routine stone tightening is typically complimentary as part of our ongoing jewelry care.

We also check and tighten stones during professional polishing and plating services, with polishing starting at $58. For jewelry requiring additional attention, pricing depends on the type of setting, number of stones, and condition of the surrounding metal.

Our jewelers will inspect your jewelry and provide an accurate quote before any work begins.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A STONE IS LOOSE?

Don't Wait Until You Can See It Move.

A clicking or rattling sound, snagging prongs, movement you can feel or a stone that suddenly looks slightly different in its setting can all be reasons to have your jewelry checked.

But loose stones aren't always obvious. Regular inspection is especially important for jewelry worn every day.

STONE TIGHTENING FAQs

Common Questions About Stone Tightening

How do I know if a stone is loose?

A clicking or rattling sound, a stone that moves when gently touched, or prongs that catch on clothing can all be signs of a loose stone. However, not all loose stones have obvious warning signs. We recommend having your jewelry inspected every six months to catch potential issues before a stone is lost.

Can you tighten a stone without removing it?

Yes! In most cases, stones can be tightened directly in their settings without being removed. Our jewelers use specialized tools and techniques to carefully secure the stone while preserving the integrity of the setting. If additional work is needed, we'll explain the recommended repair before proceeding.

Why did my stone become loose?

Everyday wear can gradually weaken or shift the metal holding your stones in place. Accidental bumps, worn prongs, and changes to the setting can also cause stones to loosen over time. Even well-made jewelry requires occasional maintenance to keep stones secure.

Can you check all the stones in my ring?

Absolutely! When you bring your ring in, we can inspect the center stone, side stones, and surrounding settings for signs of movement or wear. We recommend having your jewelry checked every six months, even if everything appears secure. Regular inspections are one of the best ways to prevent losing a stone.

What if my prongs are worn too?

If your prongs are worn, thin, or damaged, simply tightening the stone may not be enough to keep it secure. Our on-site jewelers can rebuild or replace worn prongs using traditional repair techniques or our precision laser welder. We'll evaluate the setting and recommend the appropriate repair to keep your stones protected.
